What Makes TON Different

The Open Network (TON) combines a blockchain with Telegram-linked wallets, bots, and Mini Apps. That can make onboarding easier, but it can also make it harder to tell when you are using a chat account, a custodial wallet, a self-custody wallet, or a third-party app.

Use that convenience carefully. Before sending funds or connecting a wallet, verify official links, check who controls the keys, review Mini App permissions, and test the flow with a small transfer.

Practical TON Checks

Telegram-linked onboarding

Convenient, but confirm whether funds are custodial or self-custody

Low Fees

Network fees may be small, but bad swaps, bridges, or wrong addresses can still be costly

Fast Transfers

Quick confirmations make address, network, and memo/comment checks important

Mini App Permissions

Mini Apps can request wallet actions; approve only what you understand

DeFi: Swaps, Lending, and Staking

Compare routes, custody, liquidity, and liquidation risk before committing funds

Telegram Mini Apps

Treat each Mini App as a separate third-party app with its own permissions and risks

Telegram Mini Apps are web apps run by different teams inside Telegram. Opening one is not the same as trusting it: connecting a wallet can trigger transaction prompts, token approvals, or account-related permission requests. Treat each approval like a wallet signature.

Warning: Mini app tokens and reward claims are highly speculative, and fake jettons or claim links are common. Verify the official contract address, avoid DMs, and do not assume points, tasks, or rankings will convert into durable value.

Wallets and Custody

Choose custody based on recovery needs, signing risk, and how much you plan to hold

Easy Start: Know the Custody Boundary

If you start through Telegram, check whether you are using a custodial @wallet balance or a self-custody wallet such as TON Space. Recovery, responsibility, and loss risk are different for each.

Check @wallet Source

Larger Holdings: Hardware Wallet

For larger holdings, consider a self-custody wallet with Ledger support. Keep seed phrases offline, test a small transfer first, and separate long-term storage from Mini App experimentation.

How to Get Started Safely

1

Create a TON Wallet

Open @wallet or Tonkeeper, then identify whether the balance is custodial or self-custody before depositing.

2

Get TON

Buy or withdraw a small amount first, confirm the TON network, and include any required memo or comment. Some mistakes are not recoverable.

3

Explore Mini Apps

Use official Mini App links, review wallet prompts, and skip requests you do not understand.

4

Try DeFi

Swap small test amounts first, then check slippage, price impact, liquidity, bridge exposure, and the jetton contract address.

5

Stake Carefully

Compare validator or liquid staking terms; rewards vary, exits can take time, and liquid staking tokens can trade below expected value.
